An announcement that smells like salsa

APK | October 3, 2008 | 9:57 am

I have been keeping a few projects secret. Here is another one come to light today:

But that leaves a lot of questions open. So let me answer some and open the door for any others and out of these we can build a FAQ even!

What is Legend of the Burrito Blade?
An ongoing webcomic. Each update will be a full page of black and white comic book. Each update will happen at BurritoBlade.com.

Who’s doing all the work?
Adam P. Knave writes it. Renato Pastor draws it. Lauren Vogelbaum edits it and rides herd on the story, keeping everyone focused and honest. D.J. Kirkbride is the spiritual guide, ensuring our souls are shiny.

But what is it about?

Legend of the Burrito Blade is an epic fantasy story set in modern-day New York. It is also the story of how mythology affects us and how we effect mythology. It is also the story of how we choose sides and what those sides mean. And, you know, it has food based weaponry and silliness and action and humor and everything else you might expect.

How long is the whole story?
Right now we are planning the story to be somewhere between 500 and 600 pages of comic. Which is a nice large epic story. So it’ll be around for a few years, huh?

How often will it update?
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Like clockwork, sir. Like clockwork.

How is the comic structured?
Right now it works like this: There are chapters. A bunch of chapters make a volume. There are three volumes planned right now.

Will you guys be taking breaks?
The plan is to take a week off between chapters and two weeks off between volumes. So every 3 or 4 months you will get three updates (one M/W/F cycle) that will will sketches and original fiction and such, instead of new pages. Every 16 months or so, you’ll get one two week cycle of the same. 99% of the time it is M/W/F like, as we said, clockwork.

How did this idea come about?
Adam was joking around with D.J., like they often do, and decided that since D.J. likes burritos and is a ninja that he should have The Burrito Blade. The goofiness grew from there and soon an idea was born. That wasn’t good enough though, as Adam saw some odd spark of potential and decided to use the idea to tell this huge story. Then he asked Lauren to join him, because she is really good at working with his ideas. Then Brian Cronin over at Comics Should Be Good offered to run an ad for an artist, because he is a great guy. Renato was one of the people who applied. Adam knew instantly and a deep friendship was struck up quickly between the two. They seriously just get along. A team was born. A team!

Does this team have a name?
It does, thanks for asking! We have decided to form AWESOMANCY STUDIOS as an umbrella for our work. We are, by name, AWESOMANCERS. This is Awesomancy Studios’ first project, it will very much not be the last. We all also enjoy doing other jobs so expect the over team of four to grow and change roles depending on the project.

Is it true one of the characters is named after Kirkbride?
Yup! D’Jay, who might be the big bad guy, but you never can quite tell, is named directly after D.J. Kirkbride. Accidentally, he happens to even look like him. Seriously, accidentally. Renato hadn’t seen a picture of Kirkbride when he drew D’Jay.

Can I subscribe to a feed or do I have to check the site for updates when you launch in January ‘09?
Well if you use Livejournal you can friend http://syndicated.livejournal.com/burritoblade/ and if you use an RSS reader you can add http://burritoblade.com/feed/ to your feeds. There will be mostly silence from now until we go live, of course.
