So get this one:

I wake up at 9:30 am. Do the last of the file copy stuff from the old machine to the backup drive. Shut everything down. Move old system out. Move new computer in. Set everything up. Plug stuff in.

The backup drive isn’t seen by the new machine.

So try a bunch of stuff but nothing works. All right, fucking fine. Set up old machine and attach backup drive to it, figuring I can network over to it that way. Old machine no longer sees backup drive.

Yeah. It had a 30 minute window to die on me and it took its chance. Dead.

So network old machine to copy all my data. Except I keep getting rights issues. In ways I shouldn’t. So that was a fight back and forth until it was suggest that if I move my files to a staging folder, the normal Shared folder, maybe it would ignore the odd issues. It did, but it shouldn’t have had them in the first place.

After that it was migrating about 80gigs of data in stages and installing and configuring programs. I have everything about 85-90% of the way there now.

9.5 hours later.

I love living in the future, don’t you?
