Sci-Fi channel to change name to SYFY.

APK | March 16, 2009 | 11:06 am

Yendi pointed out that over on TVWeek they mention some interesting news:

The Sci-Fi channel is going to change its name. Why? I’m glad you asked!
———————–
“The name Sci Fi has been associated with geeks and dysfunctional, antisocial boys in their basements with video games and stuff like that, as opposed to the general public and the female audience in particular,” said TV historian Tim Brooks, who helped launch Sci Fi Channel when he worked at USA Network.

Mr. Brooks said that when people who say they don’t like science fiction enjoy a film like “Star Wars,” they don’t think it’s science fiction; they think it’s a good movie.

“We spent a lot of time in the ’90s trying to distance the network from science fiction, which is largely why it’s called Sci Fi,” Mr. Brooks said. “It’s somewhat cooler and better than the name ‘Science Fiction.’ But even the name Sci Fi is limiting.”
———————–
So they decided that the new name will be SYFY. Yes, for seriously. Somehow this is considered to be less geeky and uncool than Sci-Fi?

And really. Sci-Fi is an unwanted name? All right then you know what else? SCIENCE FICTION doesn’t want you, either. I mean seriously, you limp-dicked fucks. I am beyond sick at people like, it must be said, Ron Moore, who seem to think that anymore more than a jetpack means you aren’t doing “science fiction” you’re doing “drama,” as if SF (of Sci-Fi or whatever you want to shorten it to, excluding I think SYFY) can not contain these things within it by nature. And if you think I am singling out Moore, well watch the extras on BSG Season 1 where he says EXACTLY THAT. Where he says that he wanted to do science fiction but with human drama added to it.

What the holy fuck? All y’all can suck my ass. Fuck. You. Just because you don’t understand a genre, or bother to actually look at it before you whip your cock out, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, see? And then, when the fuck lot of you, come into my house and start telling me how much you’ve always loved it and think it’s awesome and want to work here, only to refuse to care, or even to publicly have left a trail behind you telling me how little you think of it? I will fucking shove a bookcase up your ass.

You’ve been duly warned.

Yes, because the spelling of the word “Sci-fi” is why no one watches the Sci-fi channel. It couldn’t possibly be because the shows on it suck. No, that doesn’t make sense! Everyone loves made for TV movies and Star Trek Enterprise. So rebranding is the answer. Stupid jackasses.

My Library

Currently I have added 12 shelves of books. I have 40. I'll update this every time I add a shelf. It contains books I've purchased, been given for review over the years and that have been gifted to me. Also, except for random things that were scanned without thinking, this collection leaves out all of my graphic novels - for now.
