What goes in this box:

In my previous post I was accused of choosing my words carefully. I am not going to attack the person who said it, I just want to use their accusation to discuss what I use this place for and how I intend to use it and have used it.

…you’re in a position where you have to be careful about what you say and when, because you’ve made yourself into something of an internet celebrity, with many more active readers than I do. As well, you’ve made a point of rarely using your blog to share your personal views on any issue, save where it serves your ultimate goal of becoming a widely published author, or when you just can’t hold your tongue any longer.

Let’s take a look at what I do and don’t post about and enter the exciting world of why!

I don’t tend to post about:

  • My day job – partly because it’s boring but mostly I don’t post about it because it isn’t relevant to the world (for “the world” read “the internets”) and I keep my day job out of my internets life so as to keep things simple and clean and remove drama.
  • Other people’s stories – without asking first, at least. I mean if you come over my place and do some really funny shit and I want to share it with the world I will ask you first. If I don’t ask, I won’t post. Sometimes I ask and then forget, anyway.
  • My writing – at least not that often. I mean, not the selling you shit, end. I don’t post about how I am X-thousand words into something, all right? It’s boring, even to me. And I don’t want to bore myself. Though I will talk about it if asked, and occasionally will babble a bit about it.
  • My sex life – Who says I even have one? You don’t know.
  • Big brawl things – I don’t tend to post things on big whompin’ current events stuff before I know the score or am stupidly convinced I do (sometimes, ya know, shit happens) because it is always a bad idea to rush in where fools pee on corners. They tend to splash your feet. So I try to be rational and calm, and not get peed on.
    I tend to post about:

  • Things that make me laugh – ‘Cause they make me laugh. Duh? You know, pics and videos.
  • Stuff from the 80s – I am a child of the 80s and I feel deep connections there. Jem, Care bears, Mr T – it’s all part of who I am.
  • Posts trying to sell you stuff – I will do this from time to time. I will always be upfront about it and honest and not over do it. For values of “over do it” that I deem right, you may differ and I am sorry. But part of my life is selling things I write. So yes, I will use this venue to sell them.
  • Stuff that occurs to me and interests me – You know, stuff. Deep thoughts. Not many of those, I admit.
  • Goofy shit that happens to me during my day – Gum posts, anyone?
  • Political stuff, commentary on big brawl things, and drama-like crap – Sure I will post it. After I take the time to get a lot of facts. If I don’t have the time, I don’t do the crime. Simple. And it isn’t 100%, some times I post too early or less thought out than I want to be, but I try my best.
  • Art – All right it is a crime to ever call anything I do in photoshop “art” but you get the idea. You know, my shitty macros? Those.

Why though, do I post what I do and not post what I don’t? Well, because I feel like it. I don’t give half a flying fuck-a-doodle-doo. If people are offended by something they can speak to me about it. If they don’t like it they can speak to me about it. See how that works? Yeah. It’s magic. But I never hold back when I want to say something and I never will. Even if it could be detrimental to my writing career. If I feel the need to say it in a public space then I damn well will. And that’s just who I am. It’s who I will continue to be, as well.

So yeah, I have never made it a point to avoid personal opinion I just tend to talk to my friends instead of posting about it before I know enough to feel I should commit something to the perm files. It affords me greater 1-on-1 conversation and time to get my head straight before I to commit something to deep storage and go forth backing it up. And that isn’t out of a sense of anything except that before I open a floor to wide discussion I would like the tables to be set-up right.

See, my personal conversations are where I can say anything I want. Some of my friends, we argue and fuss and fight to make a point and we eventually reach it and everything is good and we walk away knowing more than we did before. But when I post something I am opening a door to the public and I want the table to be set and welcoming so people can sit down and discuss things as they choose. And that isn’t out of some misguided “Ohh I r celeb” bullshit, it’s because I have table manners and I have always thought of my blog half as a salon for drinkin’ folk who can take a punch.

That’s not new and it is just how I run my life. In person I tend to do the same. I hang out with people who aren’t afraid of debate or changing their minds. It’ s a lot of how I learn new things. I enjoy it. So yeah, that’s the big point I guess. Everything I post is in service of:

A) Making me laugh (and if it makes you laugh, too that’s awesome).
B) Selling some writing.
C) Thinking and exploring the universe.
D) Talking about the stupid shit that happened on the way to the forum.

And I guess that comment that started this post was in service, too, in its own way. So remember – I don’t leave things out because of fear (of anything at all) I leave them out because I either don’t find them interesting enough, fun enough or fully cooked yet.

And that’s it. It’s a simple, easy concept. So simple I tried to explain it to Hammerpants, because, obviously, he would get it, right? *siiiigh* Guess not:
