It’s hard

Something will attempt to stop everything you ever try to do. There will be reasons, good and bad, for you to never finish or even attempt anything and everything. It doesn’t matter what your goal is there will be endless roadblocks, interruptions, hindrances, and fears to make all progress grind to a halt.

Understand, I am being perfectly serious. It doesn’t matter what you do – these things will happen. It will be hard and rough and painful at times, if not seemingly all the time. Every dream you have will be, if you try to realize it, a knock down, drag out fight from minute one.

So why bother?

Sure is easier to sit and list the reasons, let the fears win and just accept your lot in life, isn’t it? It’s simpler and far more peaceful. Less stress. So just lie down and let it all happen. Bed is comfier, right? It’s safer, quiet, warm…

And I’m sick of people thinking that it’s a good answer.

Sure is a hard road to hoe. Always is. So put your back into it. Can’t do something you want? Find a solution. And don’t tell me there isn’t one. There is always a solution – it just might not be one you like. There will always be a price for anything you want and you have to decide if you’re willing to pay it. But be honest about it if you aren’t. Sometimes the price is too steep for a current situation or person, all right – but making it seem like there is no way to ever pay it is hiding from it. It ensures you will never be able to step up.

At least if you face it head on and come to terms with reality you can find a new strategy. Not every thing works, and beating yourself up over that simple fact doesn’t help either. But refusing to try and refusing to find an answer just ensure you can’t win.

I can’t get behind that. I have no time or space in my life for that sort of thing or that sort of person. I don’t think you do, either. Not really. The world is full of people who are trying, win or lose, and either way we talk about them a whole lot, don’t we? There’s a reason for that. They’re worth talking about. Because even if you lose, if you tried, you did something. You didn’t just sit there and wish you had. Sitting and waiting and not doing and trying lets the whole world pass you by.

So go out and do. Try. Play and laugh and push harder than you ever have before. Even if you lose, you’ve won. And even then you have to pick yourself up and try again. What else is there that’s worth doing?

Good point and words. Lord knows I’ve had those arguments myself many times in life. The answer my friend is even simpler in many ways. The power I think lay in the act of choice. To accept, or to challenge.
