Write. Play. Repeat. The live show.

Consider this your only warning, humans! Juliana Finch and I will be singing, telling stories and generally rousing rabbles for your enjoyment! We hope to see you there!

U.S.’s first drive-through sex toy shop.

Welcome to the first sex toy shop in America to offer drive-through service! Yep, Pleasures will be opening three drive-through lanes at its newest store on University drive in Huntsville, Alabama.

What’s that, you say? Doesn’t Alabama still have laws against sex toys? Well, yes. Though the owner of Pleasures is also famous for fighting that law. But that’s why Pleasures is called a “One stop romance shop” and an “upscale romance boutique.”

So in one fell swoop Alabama manages to be the most backward state regarding vibrators and the most progressive! How wonderfully odd is that? Mind you there are a few oddities because of the laws there. As an article at al.com notes:

But Alabama law also makes an exception to the ban on the sale of items designed for the “stimulation of human genital organs” if the sale was for “a bona fide medical, scientific, educational, legislative, judicial or law enforcement purpose.”

Williams said customers cannot purchase a sex toy unless they fill out a medical questionnaire describing the health-related reasons for their purchase.

But we’re moving away from the point. And the point is three lane sex toy drive-through! Items will be passed over in a brown paper bag, at the drive-through window, of course. I mean, you can now go get booze, guns, burgers, lube and anal beads all without having to leave your car.

I love America.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Yes, you read that right. Juliana Finch and I are putting on a show. Together. In Atlanta. Friday, May 14th. There will be music, reading, and who knows what else. Because frankly? We’re in this to have more fun than you can shake a stick at. There may even be sticks for comparative shaking. We aren’t against the idea.

Be prepared for anything. But mostly – be prepared for some great songs, good stuff being read and a damned good time.

Come out and see us. The chances of this show ever being repeated are pretty much non-existent. This is your only chance, world. Don’t blow it!

Seven People I Read

This is, of course, nothing like all the blogs I read. But here are seven folks I read and why I like them and why you should give them each your time, as well. I think, occasionally, I’ll return to this and slowly spotlight every blog I read, maybe. Or not. Who knows what the future will bring. Meanwhile, in absolutely no order whatsoever:

All Blogged Up and Nowhere to Go – Jett’s layout can drive me a bit batty, the little content in the tiny window thing, but her voice makes up for it. She can go from the sweetest little thang you ever did see, thanking her stars, right to taking a motherfucker out and scraping him off her boot in about .06 seconds. She’s honest, both in who she is and what she says.

Do Not Feed the Editor – Now, keep in mind, Lauren is my oft-times editor and collaborator on a lot of stuff. So you think that might influence why I adore her blog so much. You’d be wrong. I mean sure, we split the Consumerism Wow posts and all that, but Lauren manages to write a blog that is both a huge food porn blog and a slice of editing life blog. So if you like food, or you like words, or you simply like Lauren (and who doesn’t?) go enjoy.

What’s Alan Watching? – Alan Sepinwall is, hands down, my favorite TV critic. He’s smart, fun and has a great critical eye. His reviews always sparkle and get to the meat of any episode or any show. While there are some shows we disagree on (He hates Glee, I love it. He likes BSG I don’t) Alan’s reviews have turned me on to more great TV than anyone else ever has. Chuck, Burn Notice, Freaks and Geeks. Those three alone are shows I probably would not have tried if not for his reviews. So yeah, his stuff rocks.

Jodifur – Well yes, the name does remind me of Yummyfur. I can’t help that. Does it make me more likely to read the blog? Well… if I had to be honest… yes, of course it does. Do I secretly wait for Jodifur to write about Yummyfur? Totally. Meanwhile Jodifur is simply a well written, reflective blog, all about one woman’s life and how she deals with it. Is that unique? Not at all. Is this one well done and worth reading? Yup.

In Palinode’s Palace – When I grow up I want to write critical essays like this. Aidan, The Palinode, is an amazing writer and his blog posts are, simply, something to aspire to. I have a braincrush on Aidan’s blog. I can admit that. Go read a few entries and you’ll have one, too.

Film Chatter – Welcome to Elissa’s brain. She hasn’t been posting much recently, but not only will she teach you how to make a pie (no, really, there’s video) but she also draws hysterical little pictures sometimes, in between discussing film and life in L.A.

Mommy Melee – Possibly my favorite parent blog. Yah, I know, why do I read blogs about parents that are mostly about being parents? Because I have friends who are and I’m interested in their lives. But Mommy Melee is one I would read even if I didn’t happen to think the author was the bee’s knees. Because it is amazingly deftly written. Funny, touching, brutally honest and open, Mommy Melee will make you wonder why she isn’t really famous for her stuff.

More people sometime soon, I hope. Meanwhile if you have a blog, your own or someone else’s you think I should be reading, leave a note in the comments.
