What I’m Listening To – April 2023

Will ya lookit the time?! End of the month, already and so I guess it is time to tell you some highlights of music I’ve been listening to the most this month!

First up I admit I somehow never heard that boygenius was a thing until they released their first full length work. So I didn’t hear their EP until now. If you don’t know them either, the band is made up of Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus which is just an immense amount of talent to put together. Each of them is, obviously, worth listening to solo. Together they up their respective games and become something Voltron-like in its sheer goodness. If you like any of them individually I am 99% certain you will love the collective.

Speaking of collectives, OSC (the Opus Science Collective) is one of my fave synthwave artists and their new one Ambient Train is unlike anything else by the artist. Just slow, and dark, and moody, it makes an incredible pervasive background vibe. It isn’t something you’ll want to dance to, say, but it’s a powerful recording.

Finally this month The Heavy dropped their new one, Amen, and it is as good as they’ve ever sounded. They just kick a bunch of funk-adjacent, rock that feels both stripped down and lush at the same time. They are a massive talent as a band and it’s always great to see them keep rocking.

What will next month bring? I don’t know yet, but we’ll get there…
