And then, just like that, we’re in June. So strange. Anyway, I’m back to highlight a few albums I’ve been listening to on heavy rotation this past month so let’s get to it.
Utopia Revisited by Jim Infantino is something I didn’t know I needed. You probably know Infantino from Jim’s Big Ego, and I’ve been a big fan for decades. This is different, while also sort of the same? The lyrics are certainly from the same person, and have an internal feel that will be familiar to you if you know the band. But the music is unlike anything that’s come before. Inspired by his short time in Iceland, working with Kurt Uenala, Utopia Revisited is an emotionally evocative work. It feels transformative in several directions at once.
Look, some months you fall back into a Stevie Ray Vaughn hole, and that’s never gonna be a bad thing to do. This month it was a lot of Texas Flood on repeat. I can not imagine what to say about SRV that a million others haven’t said better so I’ll just leave you with a track from the album and keep moving.
Finally this month I’ve been really enjoying Club Tropez from L’Avenue. I’ve mentioned before, in my Digging Deeper – Synthwave post. They’re back with a new release, still sliding before vaporwave and synthpop and bringing that very specific mid-80s movie vibe to things.
Anyway that’s it for this month, but of course I’ll be back in a few weeks with even more music for you to try out.
