Time again for a small selection of music I’ve been listening to a whole lot, old or new. Let’s dive right in!
First up on the list I have dug back into Woody Goss’ Rainbow Beach. An instrumental album full of jazzy/funky tunes Goss just creates this fantastic aural landscape to sit and steep yourself in. Each track moves you along guiding you with gentle intent.
On the other end of the spectrum we have Ashnikko. Weedkiller, her debut full album, is full of tracks that embrace her rage and her quest to find the solid ground she demands out of life, in a fully formed, passionate spectrum of sound. Her delivery never falters, slipping from a ghost of rage to full blown anger and every step around and between.
Finally we’re gonna talk about Richie Weeks. In the 70s through the 90s, Weeks thrived in the NY dance scene, writing a number of great disco tunes he collected a ton of unreleased tracks that are only now being seen by the world. It’s truly wonderful stuff, and we’re all better for being able to listen to it now.
We’re almost at the end of the year, somehow, but next month will be more of this. What albums will it be? Who knows!
Oh, dang, I’ve got a new repeat listen in “Dude Shut Up” (and am increasingly amused at the title vs the actual chill music). Definitely gonna check out the rest of the album offerings.
