Last year I made a choice: I would post here every single week of 2023. With this post I have officially done just that. So bear with me, if you would, at a quick look back at the last year here, before I talk about what happens next.
I posted a bunch about music, not only the monthly “What I’m Listening To” series, but also some deep dives into funk, and specifically Vulfpeck and Cory Wong. I reviewed Mary Spender’s Super. Sexy. Heartbreak. Release, talked about how Tom Waits and religion were mixed into one for me, and more.
I also got into odd corners of pop culture, discussing how nostalgia can blind us to good ways into properties, as well as science fiction weapons in general, issues with teen heroes and time and entry points in comics, and just why I really dig Starfleet and the Federation specially.
All of which is to say: I have written a bunch about a bunch of different things. Getting back to blogging on a regular basis has been a ton of fun, honestly.
But, and this is where we shift into the future, I am not sure it is fully sustainable, at least not as I’ve been going.
Blogging every week takes a bunch of time and resources. There have been times it has taken some of the time I need to use for other writing. I’ve juggled it all, and made my choices and don’t regret them, but this sort of output pace sadly isn’t something I can commit to for 2024.
I need to slow down, some, on some front.
So, going forward into 2024 what can you expect? At least one post a month, and generally one post and a What I’m Listening To, which would be two posts. There will be more, every month, as something occurs to me or I have time.
I just can’t promise it the way I did last year.
Of course, come the end of next year I still look forward to my annual near Xmas fiction bit for the holidays and my Top Ten Albums of the Year, which will be hitting its fourth year.
So yeah there will still be a bunch of new things to read here, I just need to make space to have an easier time making fun things for you to read in other formats, like novels and comics.
As always, of course, you can subscribe to the site (places to do so are both on the sidebar if you’re on desktop and on the footer desktop or mobile), and I will never use your email for anything other than the sites auto-generated messages announcing a new post.
Subscribing really does help. I don’t make money off the site, I don’t monetize it in any way and don’t plan to, but just being human, the more people I know are interested, the more happy juice I get from working on the posts.
But either way, thank you for reading anything at all on the site this year and I hope you come back for 2024 as the place continues to be a strange little hole for me to put my strange little thoughts.
