Seriously? A Web Ring in this century? Yup. Kinda. Really it’s a list of links, and not a true Web Ring, because I do not know if any of these people is actually linking to the others. But look, social media sites come and go, but we still need a way to collect great buckets of people and sites. Places we like because of content, people we like because of their thoughts. This is a collection of sites that focus on comics (writing about or creatives themselves), pop culture in general, or music. They are all sites and/or people I like. So you should check them out, yourself.
Web Rings, people! We’re bringing them back! (Please note there is no real order to these links, just when/how I got them)
https://www.progressiveruin.com/ – When I think of comic bloggery type sites, I think of Mike Sterling’s Progressive Ruin. It’s been around forever, and is full of great stuff to read about comics.
https://bullyscomics.blogspot.com/ – Comics Oughta Be Fun, and it is! Featuring Today in Comics history, you can stop by daily and learn something new about comics. How many places can you say that about?
https://www.thegutterreview.com/ – One of the best sites for well thought out comics essays on the planet, The Gutter Review is the sort of comics site I wished and longer for back in the day. This isn’t your “Best Batman Outfits” site. This is a site with content like Undead Ashes On The Wind: The Golden Days of MArvel Vampire Sleaze. Yes that’s a real (and honestly fantastic) article.
https://shelfdust.com/ – Shelf Dust is the other greatest thoughtful comic site. No, for seriously. Wonderful essays about things such as Nth Man, or Hellblazer, taking angles you wouldn’t expect. And yes I have written for both Shelfdust and The Gutter Review. But I was a fan of them first.
https://gregpak.com/ – Greg Pak is one of my fave comic writers, and is also an amazing photographer and film maker. Go check out thoughts on what he has out, and photography and cooking and more.
https://longtalljodie.com/ – Jodie Troutman has been making webcomics since at least 1999. Also a great letterer, you’ll want to check this stuff out, trust me.
https://smashpages.net/ – Smash Pages is a comics site run and contributed by a stellar bunch of folks.
https://martynpedler.com/ – Martyn Pedler has written some truly fun and insightful stuff about comics and pop culture, appearing in places like, oh hey, The Gutter Review, even.
https://www.twitch.tv/thecomicbooksquad – Yes, it’s a Twitch channel not a website. But Hector Navarro, Damion Poitier and Ashley Esqueda are three people I adore separately, and together they make a cool-ass Voltron is comic discussion, weekly.
https://urbaneturtle.com/ – Tim Rooney writes a bunch of stuff about comics and pop culture for large sites, but also finds times to say smart things on his own home turf.
https://legionabstract.blogspot.com/ – I love the Legion of Super-Heroes. Love, love love them. And the Legion Abstract discusses them. It’s a good place to go if you love the Legion, or are curious what it even is.
https://www.blast-o-rama.com/ – Nice overview pop culture site for MArty Day, covering all sorts of stuff across the media spectrum.
https://www.sarahneilaelkins.com/ – Sarah Elkins is an artist and writer of prose and comics, who comes up with a lot of fun worlds for explore. Go dig in and see what’s going on. Try a serial novel. Enjoy.
https://www.monkeyminionpress.com/ – Dane and Ashlie are not only great people, they run the great Monkey Minion Press, which is full of mugs, prints, and more that you can buy and enjoy. So go do that.
https://amandaquraishi.com/ – Amanda Quraishi writes about life, stuff, and also things. No, that makes it sound like I’m being glib but I mean it. Whatever falls out of her head might end up here and it is all worth your time.
https://sktchd.com/ – SKTCHD is a fun site full of podcasts and articles across the range of comics. Subscription based, and well worth your time.
